What is Maturity ? Maturity = Function of Resources

One of the most common opinion and judgement people tend to make is about one's maturity. "Oh, he is so matured" or "oh, he is so immature,  he needs to grow up". I have witnessed small kids who are over-matured than their age and I have seen oldies...who are highly immature.

So the question boils down is what teaches us maturity ? How do we travel on the road of being a responsible person and how do we get enlightened by the learnings of maturity (just being melodramatic !!!)

I have always been taught that maturity accompanies responsibility. They always say : "oh, shove some responsibilities on his head and he'll automatically be matured" but i think its not foolproof. Over the years and after lot of reasoning, I believe it all zeros down to one thing : RESOURCES.

Mathematically expressing : Maturity = Function (Resources)

In second year college, we had economics as a subject and the first chapter explained the human behavior. It    explained : Human needs /wants are unlimited, but the resources to satisfy them are limited. When I say resources, I dont restrict myself to wealth alone, it may include anything and everything that would satisfy the human want, it can even include time !

Let me dwell further, hypothetically speaking say a human has 100 needs, but the available limited resources (money, time etc.) are able to satisfy only 40 needs. Now, there is a scarcity of resources. Now this Problem of Scarcity gives rise to Problem of Choice. This is when people have to make "choices" as to which need to select.

In this selection process, a human brain undergoes a number of missions, it starts prioritizing the needs and  allocates the available resources so that it can Maximize the Satisfaction level. While doing so the brain is forced to think, forced to reason, forced to balance between logic and emotions, forced to weigh the pros and cons of each need and finally forced to take a Decision. This entire decision making process over a period of time leads to Maturity !

Similarly, say a human has 100 needs and the available resources are unlimited, so there are no problem of choices because all his needs are met. If all his needs are met, he doesn't have to think or deliberate or rationalize to satisfy his needs. And since he doesn't need to think, he will never grow up and never mature !

Example : Money is one of the most important resource. I believe most will agree with me that on an average a poor man is more conscious and matured than a rich guy (of course there are hundreds of exception to this belief). The reason - scarcity of resource (money). A rich man has unlimited resource to spend on his need, whereas a poor man has limited resources to spend on his need and hence he has to rationalize amongst the available resources.

Ofcourse, whatever I have expressed above, there may be many exceptions to it and that this theory can be arguable. But the fact remains that higher the availability of resources, the lower is the maturity level and scarcity of resources leads to higher level of maturity. In order words,

Maturity =  ( Resources)

P.S. : Just few days back, my mom said that I am the most immature person. I cant believe I have written this article !

When will India be FREE ?

India may have got its freedom in 1947, but as Frank Wright rightly said -"Freedom is from WITHIN" ... I guess we are far from that.

India may have attained freedom from British, but as Munnabhai rightly said in his second installment - "Desh toh apna hogaya, lekin log paraye hogaya" ... how true

65 years later....the question still lingers - Are we free ? Here are some random thoughts - as to when can India really called a free country :

1.  When majority of people refuse getting fooled by political leaders and start taking up politics in their own hand.
2. When parents stop asking their kids "How many marks did you get?" & start asking them "What did you learn today?"
3. When we stop feeling sorry for the man who is dying in a car accident and stop our car and help him out.
4. When they will find out that a girl & a guy are just best friends, whom they assumed to be in relationship
5. When Government stops spending money on Incredible India ads and instead uses that money to feed poor children because that makes an Incredible India
6. When people will stop spending their time in cribbing about traffic and have time to follow the traffic discipline
7. When police is just for better governance and not fighting crime
8. When we dump religion and think about spirituality
9. When any Gujarati can goto North eastern state and play Garba and a citizen from North eastern state is free to do Manipuri in Tamil Nadu
10. When we understand that just because we invented ZERO, doesn’t mean we have to get emotionally attached to it, the world has gone far ahead and added couple of Ones to it ! It’s time to Buck Up

Free Advice to Dhoni for World Cup 2011

I believe everyone is enraged after the disastrous match with South Africa last Saturday at Group Level. As a avid cricket fan and as a disciple of "Sachin Tendulkar" Religion, I feel that it is necessary for MS Dhoni to follow a few things so that we can bring home the world cup :

1. If you want Piyush Chawla to get mentally stronger then send him to the Bigg Boss House, don't bring him to World Cup and play with our emotions.
2. Please don't use Yusuf Pathan as bowler, stupid guy gets confused and consider himself a bowler the way Yuvraj Singh got confused.
3. Where is your helicopter shot ? The only time I have seen it was in the Pepsi Ad. Dont give the silly excuse that Pepsi has patented the shot hence you can't attempt it.
4. Stop poking your friends on Facebook with you AIRCEL Phone and start poking some cricket shots.
5. Why are you not letting Ashwin and Raina play or are you saving them for next IPL Season.
6. Please stop Nehra from smiling after every bowl that he has bowled. It looks like his dentist has paid him to advertise for free. The rate at which he is smiling he would end up in circus soon.
7. I sincerely feel you should not let Deepika Padukone enter the stadium with Siddhart Mallya. I guess somewhere it lets not only your confidence but also Yuvraj Singhs down.
8. Had I been you, I would have made Sehwag understand that this is a 50 over match and not T20. So please have some patience.
9. You should take strict action against anyone who is criticizing Sachin Tendulkar. I suggest you should urge Indian Government to take action under section 295 A of Indian Penal Code which states : "Deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to 3 Years or with fine, or with both"
10. Lastly : Win the world cup...else WE will screw you up !!!

Future of Kasab

Ajmal Kasab, the lone 26/11 terrorist is the most iconic prisoner Indian Government has ever captured. He has been charged with 86 charges including waging War against India and also entering CST Station without Ticket !

Yesterday Mumbai High Court upheld the Death Penalty given by the lower court. Now WHAT ?

Future Timeline of Kasab :

2011 : He will be included in the Indian Population Census and will face embarrassing question from the volunteer : "kya aap baccha plan kar raahe ho iss saal"

2013 : There will be separate Financial Allocation in the Fiscal Budget 2013-14 for maintenance of  Kasab.

2014 : Ajmal Kasab will get a special parole signed by Sheila Dixit and will get a Wild Card entry in the Bigg Boss house.

2015 : After huge popularity in Big Boss, Kasab will now get a offer for lead role in Vishal Bharadwaj's new film : 100 Khoon Maaf

2016 : Unable to bear the burden on Economy any further...along with Education Cess we will have Kasab Cess to bridge the deficit in Fiscal Budget.

2017 : After his hit picture "100 khoon maaf" kasab makes biggest blunder of his life, he signs 3 movie deal with ram gopal varma.

2018 : Supreme Court will finally upheld Death Sentence of Kasab. Some civil society wallas will appear on NDTV proclaiming that Kasab did NOT get a fair trial and will demand Re-Trial. Kasab will smile and think - "Picture abhi bhi baaki hain mere dost"

2019 : All 3 movies flop at box office. Later, citing issues of minority, Kasab will contest election. He will win an independent seat to Parliament.

2020 : A new defination will be included in Indian Economics - "Barter Exchange with Pakistan" : We Import Kasabs from Pakistan against the Exports of Sania Mirzas.

2021 : He will once again be included in the Indian Population Census and will have to face embarrassing question from the volunteer : "sir, aap apne baache ko BMC school mein daalenga ya terrorist school mein ?"

2022 : He will have to forgo his MP seat due to poor attendance in Parliament as he was in Jail. hence he will apply to www.naukri.com for a job and mention his key skills as swimming and able to fire Ak-47 & other guns.

and so on the story continues...

Meanwhile, Somewhere in distant Pakistant, kids ask their poor fathers : "dad, how to live a king-size life ?" their fathers merrily reply "go and bomb India, I dont know about Pakistan, but India will definately Honour you !!!"

Microsoft wants to buy Nokia or RIM

Are you shocked? OK, before you skip a heart-beat, it is better to clarify that this is NOT a confirmed news. It is just a rumor that is slowly building up and doing rounds in the international news.

From the Vantage Point of Microsoft

Since 10 years Microsoft has been developing and  innovating “WindowsMobile” as its predominant mobile operating system for smartphones and other mobiles but it has not gained enough popularity and market to live upto its reputation and brand name.

As of 2010, it commanded only 5% in the worldwide market share (against 18% of Blackberry OS and 43.5% of Nokia-Symbian OS). Hence the fact remains that it has not been able to catch-up in the race of mobile operating system platform.

With Microsoft’s latest OS “Windows Phone 7” launched just few weeks back, it has finally been able to impress many critics around the globe or at least that’s what Microsoft believes. If there is something that is missing for them in their goal to dominate the mobile market then it would be the “hardware” issue.

Microsoft might have to think about getting into the hardware foray (that is to manufacture/develop their own line of phones) to stay in the game and control the entire user experience because Blackberry develops its own phones, so does Nokia-Symbian and so does Apple.

The best possible option that Microsoft has got : is to go for buy-out because starting from scratch would not only be tedious job but also would consume lot of their resources. Talking of buy-out there are two possible contenders :

1. Nokia-Symbian
2. Blackberry-RIM

I may have raised quite a few eyebrows by citing these two giants name because I know what you are thinking : whether Microsoft can afford to buy any of two companies ? No one can substantiate this answer but it is worth noting that as of quarter ending December 2010, Microsoft had a cash surplus and cash equivalent of $39.98 Billion, whereas RIM-Blackberry’s Market Cap was $32 Billion and Nokia’s Market Cap was around $42 Billion.

Though any open offer made by Microsoft to any of these companies would have to be at a considerable high premium but one cannot rule out the whole bold incident of “attempted Yahoo buy-out” by Microsoft @ $47.5 Billion.

Techcrunch’s article few days back states that Nokia on the other hand was considering moving its office from Finland to Silicon Valley, US. Does that add to our speculation?

As far as RIM is concerned even though  its popularity it is way behind the well-liked apple and android backed phones but together, RIM and Microsoft may stand a chance.

To end I would say that Windows Phone 7 has been receiving good response but by the time it reaches pinnacle, Apple and Google might come up with something new, fancy and innovative as always.

Hence in nut-shell Microsoft is few years behind them and buying-out is the only option to propel its way to the top. Let us wait and watch whether this rumor becomes reality or Microsoft has something new in its kitty !
